Scholarships

At GIIS, we pride ourselves on providing the best learning experiences to our students. That is why we developed our 9 GEMS framework to enhance learning, and the experiences students have at our various campuses. The framework is carefully woven into every part of the GIIS ecosystem. It provides the most out of our pedagogical approach to balancing academics and extracurriculars. Each design, feature, and the facility is tailored to carefully foster and emphasize our teaching methodologies and the universal values we impart to shape our students into well-rounded and responsible global citizens.

What is the 9 GEMS Holistic Development Scholarship?

The 9 GEMS Scholarships is an annual scholarship open to all students of all grades. It’s a talent-based award where they can win tuition scholarships that cover anywhere between 20 to 60 per cent of their yearly tuition fees. How much a scholarship recipient gets depends on the category they qualified for. The Category A recipients get up to 60 percent off on their tuition fees; category B receive 40 percent off while category C receive 20 percent off. To be eligible, they must receive recognition in any of the 9 GEMS skill areas.

To apply, submit the application form and the required documentation such as academic records, or awards in sport, performing arts, or co-curricular activities. Since the scholarship is associated with the 9 GEMS framework, it pays to know more about it before applying. If you submit application forms that are incomplete, incorrectly filled or are missing documents, your application will be rejected. We will contact successful applicants via email after ten working days with further instructions. If you are successful, you may be invited for further assessment, a test and a one-on-one interview. Final recipients of the award will be contacted via email and phone to discuss disbursement.

What is the 9 GEMS pedagogy?

The 9 GEMS learning framework is a revolutionary, award-winning teaching methodology designed to help students meet the ever-changing needs of the world. This framework trains students, sharpens their strengths, and mould their personalities, turning them into global citizens. It is a perfect balance of academics and extracurriculars perfectly woven into every aspect of life at GIIS. The 9 GEMS framework is designed to build well-rounded students by taking an integrated and holistic approach to learning.

The framework is the best of both worlds; a fusion of both Eastern and Western teaching practices. This model takes value-based learning beyond academics by integrating other aspects of student life. The ultimate goal of this well-rounded approach is developing learners that can take on this ever-changing world and its many challenges. It comprises of nine areas namely:

1. Academic excellence, collaborative and project-based learning

At GIIS, we value academic excellence; after all, it’s why most learners are here with us. As our primary GEM, we place the most emphasis on achieving academic excellence. To achieve this, we have incorporated the best practices in pedagogy and technology to facilitate learning in a conducive environment. We ensure that all learners are exposed to and take part in collaborative, project-based learning and cross-school exchanges to boost their academic outcomes.

2. Personality development, Speech and Drama

It is a culmination of three GEMS: sports, academic and artistic excellence. These three help a learner develop their personality. This GEM focuses on cultivating this further through various methods resulting in the student’s overall character development and growth. Here learners work on skills such as communication, confidence building, social networking, and teamwork through activities like theatre, music, writing, public speaking, and photography.

3. Digital and Visual Arts

Unlike science, art is the expression of abstract notions such as thoughts, feelings, emotions and desires- an area of learning just as crucial as academics or sports. As kids grow, they go through several stages and connect more to the world through various art forms such as dancing, singing, painting, drawing or crafting. Our curriculums are designed to expose learners to digital and visual arts at an early age, helping them explore and discover their artistic side. It, in turn, allows them to express their feelings more efficiently as well as fosters creativity, imagination and out-of-the-box thinking.

4. Sports, Health and Fitness excellence

At GIIS, we view sports fields as alternative classrooms where our students can learn the importance of teamwork and dedication. Through sports, they learn about hard work, sportsmanship, perseverance and other character-building values. We also believe in supporting our students to perform well in all areas to help hone them into well-rounded individuals. Their progress is measured so students can learn about their strengths and weaknesses and see where they need to improve.

5. Creativity, Innovation and Problem Solving

Creativity and innovation aren’t something only certain people, such as artists or academics, should have; they are necessary life skills that have multiple uses. By fostering creativity and innovation, we are preparing learners to live and thrive in this competitive ever-evolving world. The GIIS comprehensive creativity development program (CCDP) aims to assist learners in developing new creative and innovative approaches to solving problems.

6. Entrepreneurship and leadership development

This GEM teaches skills through various initiatives such as lectures, training, project and counselling sessions meant to arouse and nurture the leader in them. The initiatives aim at helping learners develop their critical thinking skills, decision making and problem-solving skills. Programs such as the GIIS leadership lecture series or the entrepreneurship program allows pupils to engage with industry leaders and engage with them through mutual interaction.

7. Universal values, Ethics and Discipline

We believe in producing students who are more than their academic profiles; we believe in helping develop learners into good, decent human beings. It is achieved through the well structured and integrated approach to learning that focuses on community welfare, mutual respect, practising kindness and a need to foster and promote peace.

8. Community connection, Care and Conservation

It’s important to us for our learners to be connected to the communities close to them. Through various initiatives such as community responsibility, green initiatives and kindness movements, students are nurtured to be socially responsible. We encourage our pupils to initiate projects that help rain awareness about the environment, the community and society as a whole.

9. Life skills, Career and Vocational competencies

A big part of helping our students develop into well-rounded people is through the cultivation of academic, social and life skills. The skills development program at GIIS aims at teaching students the difference between a career, a vocation and life skills, allowing them to choose life paths that are both meaningful to them and satisfying. Developed by the Global Center of Educational Excellence, these skills fall into a category that actively promotes training and the exploration of problems to find their solutions.

The 9 GEMS framework takes a truly revolutionary approach to teaching. Where other frameworks only focus on the academic development and growth of a learner, it ensures your child gets the best of everything. The 9 GEMS scholarship is a testament to how we are committed to promoting this pedagogy. By rewarding learners who have succeeded in one or more areas of the 9 GEMS framework, it encourages others to want to do better. And while not all learners can get this scholarship, they all benefit, so it’s a win-win situation.
